These models use a same D/A oscillating
engine with gearing to produce models of unusual industrial locomotives. This would include
Stephen Lewin overtypes and Lumpy Tom, or could have a hidden geared engine where the
prototype was direct drive, such as the Vertical boiler Balmforth Brothers, the De Wintons for the
Penryhn Quarry main line or the more usual De Winton but with the engine geared. This group
also includes several types of Tramway Locomotives where the engine and gearing are
not readily seen and would include the manufacturers as Beyer Peacock,
Graffenstaden, Henschel & Sohn, SLM, Machinefabriek "Brenda" etc. Finally, we can include the
Festiniog lcomotives built with dummy outside cylinders and hidden geared engine for slow running,
including the George England saddle tanks and Fairlies.
