Types Of Locomotives
Recently, more conventional direct drive models based on Roundhouse parts have appeared along with an electric powered gauge 1 standard gauge and a 7/8" scale Sentinel. With such a variety of models it is difficult to categorise them but here goes
1. Articulated Locomotives

These can be direct drive, such as the Himalayan Darjeeling class 'D' or Ceylon Government  Rly class H1 Beyer Garratts. Some very small Garratt locomotives have dummy outside cylinders with a hidden marine type engine and geared carden shaft drive, such as C de F Vicinaux du Mayumbe or FCAF No.2 Garratt. Alternatively, these articulated locomotives can be based on a geared prototype such as the Shay, New Zealand Bush logging locomotives or the Avonside 2 and 4 cylinder geared locomotives used in Natal sugar plantations.
